What you ought to know about network marketing
Network marketing is becoming more and more popular as a part time job for people who want to earn some extra cash. While network marketing can be extremely handy it’s also got its hidden sides.
There are many things you need to be aware of prior to joining any particular organization. Let’s start form the most obvious one:
What is network marketing?
Network marketing (also known as multi-level marketing and cellular marketing) is a business model where independent agents sell the goods and/or services, as they become a part of a certain organization. As the name itself indicates, this model of business works through networking, that is, through recruiting different people to work independently.
Each agent earns their commission based on their sales revenue, as well as on the sales revenue of the people they’ve recruited and so on. Every representative has the line of recruiters called ‘downlines’. As they generate sales it adds to rep’s income.
What it isn’t
The first example people usually think of is the Avon industry or Tupperware. A representative comes to your house and tells you all sorts of promising stories while you’re eating cookies with you neighbors. But this is not the true image of network marketing.
Who is it for?
Just like being a dentist isn’t for everyone, network marketing is not for everyone either. In network marketing, knowing ‘what to do’ is equally as important as knowing ‘what not to do’.
This job can take many shapes and forms – you can be selling directly to other people, or you could be doing all that online from the comfort of your home. Either way, you need to be the type of person who is proactive, persuasive, eloquent and more importantly – you need to be a people-person.
This sounds easy at the first glimpse, but if you really want to succeed in this industry it takes more than just wanting it. It takes dedication and openness to new experiences. Not everybody is up to this challenge.
This job is perfect for parents, stay-at-home moms or dads, but also for small business owners, self-employed people or anyone who wants to earn some extra income.
Which company should I join?
There are many companies out there offering this model of job. But which one should you join?
Different companies have different payment policies. In order to find the one that suits your needs, you need to have all the information at your disposal.
In addition to that, there have been many illegal pyramid schemes and scams in multilevel industries. Oftentimes certain individuals take more money than they deserve just because they’re higher up the ladder, and you’re new. But this is not the case in reputable companies, of course.
Because of this, if you want to work in this industry you need to make sure you choose a stable and long-standing company.
Before you join in any organization or company, make sure you do your homework. But that’s sometimes difficult, because Internet can be deceiving. You can’t find out which company is trustworthy and which isn’t based on what is said on their website. And you can’t always trust other people inside the company either.
You need an outsider who’s been in this line of business long enough to point you in the right direction.
